Terrace furniture in winter storage: tips for proper maintenance and storage

Customers are still enjoying the last sunny days on the terrace. But soon it will be unavoidable to think about professional winter storage for your terrace furniture. The GO IN experts know how to best protect and prepare the materials.

There is no need to put your terrace away too early, as in autumn it is still possible to enjoy a few fine days. If you would like to extend the outdoor season a little longer for your customers, you can perhaps leave a few chairs and tables in a sheltered area, close to the wall or under the eaves, offering customers heated padded seat cushions and blankets for sunny but cool autumn days.

Stacking outdoor furniture saves space

At first glance, people always look at the aesthetics of a terrace chair. But it is strongly recommended to give priority to practical criteria, such as choosing stackable chairs and tables that can be stacked sideways. This makes it possible to optimize the storage of your furniture during the winter. Chairs must be stored in dry, clean spaces. The GO IN professionals: ?Heated spaces are not suitable for storing wooden furniture, because the temperature variation between outside and inside can crack the wood.?

Wooden outdoor furniture: maintenance only after winter

Whatever the material, coarse dirt must always be removed before storage, so that tables and chairs stay in impeccable condition for longer. Loose fittings must also be tightened before storage. Prepared in this way, the furniture is ready for use from the first days of spring. It is also preferable to apply care products only in spring, before the start of the new outdoor season. This prevents the furniture from sticking together when stacked. It can stick together when, for example, the oil has not completely hardened. Varnished and non-porous furniture should not be oiled.

Metal or plastic furniture?

Metal furniture does not require any special maintenance. Cleaning it is enough. If it is exposed to a salty climate, any salt residue left on the legs must be removed completely. Plastic furniture is the easiest outdoor furniture to maintain. It requires no special treatment.

Maintaining outdoor tables

For maintenance, the material-specific recommendations apply. When storing tables, please note that they must never be stacked so that the tabletops rest directly on top of each other. To protect against scratches and improve air circulation, it is recommended to place dry wooden battens between the tabletops.

Parasols: lying down or standing up

Parasols may only be furled when they are completely dry, in order to prevent mold. It is recommended to cover them with a cover, which also protects against dust and dirt. Parasols can be stored lying down or standing up.

Outdoor furniture exposed to cold and UV rays

If your terrace furniture stays outside in winter, for example for a restaurant in the mountains, it will be exposed to cold, snow and intense UV rays. It is therefore important to take precautions and to choose the right materials. It must be sturdy and resistant so that it can be reused the following season.
