Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona launches two exclusive ?Joan Miró? experiences

The paths of Joan Miró - whose 125ème birth anniversary is being celebrated this year - and of Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona - which is itself celebrating its centenary - have often crossed! An embodiment of Catalan identity, the Surrealist artist held his first solo exhibition in Barcelona in 1918 - the very year Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona opened its doors. Later, the artist would spend hours in the hotel lobby studying a painting by his mentor, the Catalan painter Modest Urgell, one of the sources of his inspiration.
Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona celebrates this intimate bond by launching two Miró experiences that allow its guests to discover, in complete exclusivity, little-known facets of the artist's work and life.
First, the hotel offers VIP visits to the Fundació Joan Miró outside the museum's public opening hours. Allowing guests to admire his works in complete peace and privacy, these guided tours also make it possible to explore private sections of the museum that are not accessible to visitors, notably the one housing his moving personal archives.
Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona is also the only hotel in Barcelona to offer a full-day guided excursion to the recently renovated Mas Miró, in the Catalan village of Mont-roig del Camp, where, by the artist's own admission, most of his work was conceived.
This place had been kept practically as the painter left it in 1976, during his last stay: the farmhouse, the studio, the chapel, the washing pond, the old well, the henhouse and the sheepfold have remained intact. Recently renovated, it has been faithfully preserved. His studio, designed in 1940, in particular, seems frozen in time. With its painting tools seemingly ready to be used, its unfinished sketches and its preserved personal belongings, it gives the astonishing impression that Miró has just stepped out.
This second Miró experience for two people is offered as a special package, which includes the round trip by private car with driver and guide between Majestic Barcelona and Montroig del Camp (approximately 1h30 by road), the guided tour of the site and lunch at the Hermitage Mare de Déu de la Roca, close to Mas Miró. This magical spot perched at 294 metres above sea level on a hill of reddish rocks, another source of inspiration for Miró, offers a superb panorama of the Catalan countryside.
These initiatives are among the events launched this year by the historic 5-star hotel, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, to highlight its century of existence at the heart of the cultural and political life of the Catalan capital. As part of this, it is also showcasing its exceptional collection of more than a thousand works of art – from Miró to Kapoor – displayed throughout the hotel. The palace hotel has published a catalogue presenting its most admirable pieces.
