HI-MACS® acrylic stone: a successful blend of styles for the new Evolution Club in Bucharest

In the heart of Bucharest's historic district, known as ?Cafeneaua Veche?, the eclectic Evolution Bar was designed in sharp contrast with the 18th-century neo-Gothic building that houses it, bringing a wave of freshness and modernity through the use of HI-MACS® acrylic stone
Located in the basement of the building, Evolution Bar is part of a much larger renovation project carried out by the young designer Sebastian Barlica.
The designer wanted to harmonise the Byzantine style of the main oblique arch with designer furniture and other decorative elements made from HI-MACS®. For this reason, the tables were designed in the shape of a classic fireplace surround and painted in modern colours, while the floor lamps were created from rubber hoses.
The stone floor, reminiscent of an oriental carpet, features attractive contemporary patterns. The geometric, sinuous shapes of the bottle rack suspended above the bar recall a transparent beehive.
The bar itself, made from HI-MACS®, catches the eye with its natural green colour (Light Green) and its imposing size.
The focal point of this project, the bar features an organically shaped suspended structure of 21 metres. This design was created by thermoforming HI-MACS®: a subtle blend of the contemporary style of acrylic stone and the authenticity of the venue.
?The material chosen for this project had to be suitable for an extremely busy space, and therefore exposed to impacts and other damage. It therefore had to be resistant, hygienic, non-porous and durable, but also allow us to create a curved, colourful and sinuous shape: HI-MACS® was the obvious choice.
Moreover, when the surface is sanded with sandpaper, this material can be easily repaired directly on site. All these characteristics and qualities become essential criteria when selecting materials for public spaces,? says the designer.
Atvangarde Surfaces, exclusive distributor of HI-MACS® in Romania, accepted the challenge of Sebastian's project.
