easyHotel launches room key in Apple Wallet

easyHotel offers a fully digital check-in experience: guests can now unlock their room with a simple gesture on their iPhone or Apple Watch.

easyHotel guests can now add their room key to Apple Wallet on their iPhone and Apple Watch, then simply tap their device to unlock their room and access other areas of the hotel. The hotel chain easyHotel, renowned for its excellent value for money, now offers room keys in Apple Wallet at its London City Shoreditch and Paris Aubervilliers hotels, reinforcing its commitment to making travel simpler and smoother for its guests. This innovation also allows easyHotel to move towards a lower-carbon future by reducing its reliance on traditional key cards.

A simplified and seamless guest experience
Room keys in Apple Wallet help deliver a seamless experience, from check-in to check-out. Once the room key has been added and activated in Apple Wallet, guests can hold their device near the door's NFC lock to easily access areas protected by a key card. With Express Mode, guests do not need to unlock their device to use their room key in Apple Wallet: they simply tap the screen and walk in. If an iPhone runs out of battery, guests can still use the device to unlock their room or the shared areas thanks to the Power Reserve feature.

Guest security and privacy are top priorities at easyHotel. The room key in Apple Wallet takes full advantage of the privacy and security features built into iPhone and Apple Watch. Information about an easyHotel guest's use of a room key in Apple Wallet is never shared with Apple or stored on Apple servers. If an iPhone or Apple Watch is lost, the guest can quickly use the Find My app to locate it.

A technology collaboration for low-carbon innovation
This launch was made possible through a collaboration between Alliants, a guest experience technology expert, and dormakaba, a global leader in smart access control solutions. dormakaba's digital locking technology and Alliants' mobile key delivery platform completely eliminate the need for a physical key card, allowing guests to enjoy a fast, efficient and digital check-in experience.

easyHotel has seen growing demand for digital solutions, as also highlighted by a study conducted by easyHotel. This study found that more than half of guests prefer mobile check-in and check-out. In line with easyHotel's goal of making travel as environmentally friendly as possible, easyHotel removed all plastic key cards in 2023 and introduced FSC-certified wooden key cards, which avoids the production of 55 000 plastic key cards per year.
