Cloud PMS and online booking: the essential duo for hotels and restaurants in 2025
Amid margin pressure, staff shortages and ultra-connected customers, searches such as ?cloud hotel PMS?, ?restaurant reservation software? or ?hotel management software? are soaring on Google. For an establishment, not having high-performing digital tools now means risking the loss of bookings… and revenue.
Customers who book on mobile first
According to SHR Group's Hotel Industry Trends Report 2024, mobile bookings already accounted for 47,8% of bookings in 2023, compared with 50,1% on desktop, a gap that is closing rapidly.
In the United Kingdom, a 2024 study published by SHR and relayed by Hotel Online even shows that smartphone bookings exceeded 51,3% of domestic bookings, ahead of desktop for the first time.
In practical terms, a hotel or restaurant website that is not mobile-optimised and not connected to a cloud PMS and an online booking engine drives away part of the demand, to the benefit of OTAs or better-equipped competitors.
Online ordering, now a customer reflex
On the restaurant side, TouchBistro's report The State of Restaurants in 2024 indicates that 95% of restaurants use at least one online ordering platform, and that 72% have a website, of which 94% allow customers to view the menu online.
The 2024 Paytronix Online Ordering Report goes further: online orders account for 27% of all orders for restaurants and convenience stores, and customers who use a brand's direct ordering platform add 35% more items per ticket than those who use a third-party aggregator.
In 2025, the report Digital Transformation in the Foodservice Industry (Zipdo) highlights that 55% of consumers prefer to order via a mobile app rather than by phone, and that 60% of foodservice operators consider that digital transformation improves operational efficiency.
For an establishment, investing in an online ordering solution connected to the PMS or the POS software is therefore no longer a luxury: it is a lever for revenue and customer loyalty.
The cloud PMS at the heart of the digital ecosystem
The cloud hotel PMS is becoming the core of the infrastructure:
It centralises bookings (website, OTAs, corporate, groups, restaurant).
It synchronises room and table inventory in real time.
It integrates with channel management, payment, CRM and marketing automation solutions.
For sites that list suppliers to the hotel and restaurant industry, these trends are essential: decision-makers are now looking for hotel and restaurant software vendors able to prove, with studies to back it up, their impact on occupancy rate, average spend and overall profitability.
