Resuinsa shows that hotel textiles can be "completely sustainable"
Wednesday, March 25, 2020Description :

Resuinsa, the benchmark Spanish hospitality firm around the globe and one of the top attractions at Hospitality Innovation Planet (HIP), built a 100% recycled and recyclable stand made from cardboard tubes used for fabrics after they come off the looms to showcase ?hotel textiles that can be completely sustainable’. This is thanks to the launch of its new sustainable collections: Cotton EBO, Cotton Plus, Lino EBO and the VITA Collection. In turn, Carmela Martí presented its Posidonia collection of decorative textiles.

Now, hotels can be fully decorated with 100% sustainable textiles thanks to the new line of recycled and recyclable products that will mark a before and after in the textile sector, managing near ?zero waste’ for each product through ?circular recycling’.

Cotton EBO (100% Ecological, Biological and Organic Cotton)

The new Cotton EBO collection of satin and percal sheets, towels, dressing gowns and tablecloths made from Ecological, Biological and Organic Cotton comes from a material that does not use insecticides, pesticides or chemical fertilisers, and which favours the earth’s natural cycles'all supported by the GOTS standard. It is one of the top standards in the world independently certifying that the cotton we use comes from organic/ecological agriculture’, states Resuinsa CEO Félix Martí.

Cotton PLUS (60% Cotton 40% post-industrial Cotton)

The Cotton PLUS collection of towels and dressing gowns is made from 60% Ecological, Biological and Organic cotton and 40% post-industrial cotton, i.e. the leftover cotton yarn and fabric discarded in the cutting process.

Lino EBO
The Lino EBO collection of sheets and tablecloths is made from 100% Ecological, Biological and Organic Linen whose farming and harvest does not use insecticides, pesticides or chemical fertilisers.

VITA Collection
The firm also presented the ?VITA Collection’ designed by Carmela Martí Decoración, made from recycled consumer textiles. The new line offers accessories such as a press bag, an amenities bag, a laundry bag and a smartphone cover. Martí states that the collection comes from the essence of the name itself. Its main goal is to breath new life into products which would otherwise become waste’.

The company’s presentation was part of the HIP fair in Madrid, running until 26th February, where it took part with a 100% sustainable stand and three talks highlighting the firm’s new products for 2020 that combine technology and sustainability.

Resuinsa is utilising its skills in innovation for sustainability, making a transition to the circular economy and creating product lines ?that have multiple lifecycles and are reused for different purposes, thus minimising their environmental impact and boosting the circular economy’.

Posidonia by Carmela Martí

Carmela Martí Decoración is once again setting trends with its new sustainable textile collection Posidonia, named in honour of the endemic Mediterranean seagrass with immense properties for preserving the natural habitat. The brand aims to offer an alternative in sustainable decorative textiles made from plastic waste collected from our oceans and seas that square the consumption circle without losing out on design and functionality one bit. Posidonia is an essential element for preserving the seabed and Carmela Martí is seeking for this collection to be a pillar in transitioning towards more sustainable textile interior design.

The collection covers all types of decorative fabrics at hotels'from voiles and blackout curtains to quilts, cushions and plaids'and meets the exact same demanding technical features required by the sector. The fabrics are made from two types of recycled fibres in different ratios. On the one hand, polyester from plastic bottles and packaging made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate) which, in many instances, come from waste cleaned from our seas and oceans. On the other, recycled post-industrial or post-consumer cotton taken from old cotton garments that are shredded and recycled into a new fibre. Thanks to the Posidonia collection, not only do we have a way to beat one of the planet’s major problems'plastic pollution'but also a manufacturing process that contributes to reducing environmental impact. There is also a huge water saving since there is no need to re-dye the fabric.

Moreover, the fabrics have been certified through the Global Recycle Standard that ensures their sustainable origins and processes throughout the chain of production.
